Nico Rondet has been a professional race car driver for over 20 years. His professional racing career has taken him from Go-Karts in Brasil to both Touring Car and Open-Wheel racing in France and England. The late-1990's had him competing in the Barber Dodge Pro Series (The Open-Wheel development series for former CART). Rondet won every stage of the development ladder: the Dodge 2.0 liter Championship in 1996, Rookie of the Year in 1997 and the Series Championship in 2001. His efforts led him to a partial year at the Toyota Atlantics Series in 2002. In 2011, Nico debuted and raced a partial season of the Continental Tire Challenge. Beyond Nico's talents behind the
wheel, his 20 plus year experience in developing the racing craft have also
allowed him to build a keen understanding of driving dynamics and telemetry
interpretation. Since the early years of his career, Nico has taught performance
driving to fellow professionals, up and coming drivers, and driving enthusiasts.
NICO:
The IRONMAN Triathlete Supporting Special Causes Nico's' number one priority outside
of driving is maintaining top notch fitness. Inspired by the likes of Ayrton
Senna, Nico follows a very methodic multisport training regimen. For the last 12
years he has made triathlon (swimming, cycling and running) his fitness and
conditioning ally. Nico began his training with a group of athletes that
trains and raises funds for charities with the goal of racing at Ironman events.
Over the years he has raced in all
levels of triathlons from Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman (70.3), and his
favorite, the Ironman distance (140.6 - for total miles travelled in the race).
Nico heads into the water for the 2.4 mile
swim, puts on his road handling skills & aerodynamic
prowess on the 112 mile bike ride, and brings it to the finish line with
a 26.2 mile run. Always ready for an extra challenge, Nico has also taken to the
dirt and high altitude offerings of the Xterra Off-Road Triathlons. In the last couple of years, it
appears that other fellow drivers have discovered the benefits and thrills that
the triathlon lifestyle and racing offer. Tony Kanaan completed his first
Ironman in November of 2011 and appears to be hooked. Jenson Button has also
competed in various Olympic distance events. Congratulations to them both! Rondet has raced in Ironman-distance
triathlons in support of the Challenged
Athletes Foundation (CAF) and The
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. The CAF raises money to help people
with physical disabilities pursue an
active lifestyle through physical fitness and
competitive athletics. Watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_urmOX3s1LI The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training raises funds to battle blood related cancers through funding of research.
